That's me accepting my award and looking a bit shell shocked!

Hi, I'm Haulwen Nicholas, aka The Packaging Oracle and winner of Packaging News UK Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award 2017 for my work on packaging education in the sector.

In June 2017, I set up my own business to provide specialist support to packaging manufacturers and packaging users. In particular, I'm keen to support entrepreneurs and SME's to make the right packaging choices for their business.

My focus is on providing advice, coaching and training to the industry on packaging strategy, packaging & the environment & circular economy.

Packaging is in the news again for all the wrong reasons, I can help you to determine the best packaging solutions and environmental packaging strategy for your organisation so you can make the best-informed decisions to limit your impact on the environment.

I provide bespoke advice for organisations large and small and online training via my Packaging Academy. I also offer bespoke in-house training on request.

Not only do I support training for technical teams, but also for people working in roles related to packaging such as marketing, sales, procurement, PR, CSR, journalists etc.

Haulwen Nicholas

Haulwen Nicholas has 20 years of experience working in the packaging industry working across many areas of the supply chain. In November 2017 she won the Packaging News Oustanding Contribution to the Industry Award 2017 for her voluntary work leading packaging education & training in the UK.

She has worked for Nice-Pak International (wet wipe manufacturer), Dairy Crest where she was part of the team that delivered the revolutionary Catherdal City zip pak and Amcor's Flexcan to the dairy sector. Wipak UK Ltd, where she was Technical Manager for 5 years, WRAP where she advised on packaging optimisation and food waste to retailers and brands.

In 2010 she moved to Muller where she was Head of Packaging and was instrumental in supporting the growth of the team from 5 to 24 people as Muller UK & Ireland grew from 800 people in the UK to 12,000, and from 1 manufacturing site to 13.

She has a degree in Environmental Biology, a Diploma in Packaging, a certificate in an introduction to Circular Economy, is a trained facilitator and has qualified as a Myers Briggs and NLP Coach.

She is an Ambassador for Psychologies Magazine and is trying to work with industry, universities and other organisations to help educate and train people about developing the right packaging for the future.

Outside of the packaging industry, Haulwen is a keen writer, she loves to walk in nature, read and spend time tending to her garden. She adores the sea and goes body boarding whenever she can.

In 2010 frustrated at the rubbish left on many beaches she started writing a children's book on the topic and has been pushing for change, though she has felt like she's been banging her head against a brick wall.

Haulwen is in a unique position where she can really understand both sides of the argument around the packaging and environmental debate.
